My family passed thru the 'Land of Oz' several years ago. It's good to see that Oz is still around to be enjoyed. My daughter, Bethany, was 4 at the time and 'Dorothy' was kind enough to take Bethany on a tour of Oz. We enjoyed it so much that we returned and took part in the OzFest the following year. At that time, Bethany, Laurie (my wife) and I attended a meeting with four munchkins and the grand son of L. Frank Baum. Later on the weekend, a tea was held by 'Glenda - the good witch', (Neice of Billie Burke) entertained children by reading a shot story. Dorothy's House was host to a dinner held at the Mid-American Air Museum. Airplane buffs will enjoy viewing may unique planes on display. Two great places to visit when passing near Liberal, Ks. And, you will not 'dent' your pocketbook. Thanks to the volunteers at the gift shop for a terrific trip to Dorothy's HOuse and the "Land of Oz'.

One of my ancestors, a Civil War veteran, is buried in the Fort Dodge Cemetery. I found his headstone. I assume he was a resident of Fort Dodge. How would I find out when he became a resident and if his wife joined him there? Can someone tell me where those records are kept. Thank you.

I am seeking information on two of my relatives that are buried there at Muncie Cemetery. One is Mary Elizabeth Nelson Carter born Jun 1884 and died Aug 1931,

The other is Linnie Hereford Kempt or Kent (our family uses both names depending on the section of family and although we knew her as Linnie, her given name could be Melinda or Linda, or another similar name) She was born 10 Sept 1887 and died 18 Feb 1920.

I would be extremely interested in an obit on either woman or cause of death, the section these two Aunts are buried, anything on the funeral cards, including who paid for the funeral, any siblings, family members mentioned, cause of death, the funeral home that handled the burial if any. I had respiratory failure, and am now disabled with a permanent tracheostomy tube, so traveling is just no longer possible for me. I would appreciate any suggestions and I can't afford to pay for research, but would of course pay for any charge to copy and mail any information to me. Thank you, Teresa McCallan Wilson

I really recommend visiting this little area. It's actually quite pretty and the hills near the spring make for a nice little day hike. It's especially fascinating to see the names that have been carved into the rock at the spring. There's a charm to rural Kansas, and I think people could really appreciate the sites here.

I grew up in Kansas, (Topeka) and traveled by this beautiful home for years as a child. I am so thrilled that this home is now truly loved by its owners, (it shows).
Is it still owned by Gary Yuschalk and Larkin Mayo? I remember reading about it around 2004, I think it was in "Victorian Homes" my husband and I plan on taking a trip into Kansas just to see this house and a few others next summer. I, more than anything would love to meet these two men. Anyone who would leave their
home ( I think they came to Kansas from California) and careers, to start a new life with a home or maybe because of this home, well I am in love with them both. I have always been lucky enough to live in Victorian or Neoclassical homes all of my life, until about eight years ago. I got very sick and had way more surgeries (25) than would be considered "my fair share" but that is just life, and we live it and make the best of it. Our goal is to again save a Victorian and live there forever. We have been fortunate to restore four very old homes in our marriage. We are very proud of doing it "right" from the bones to completion.
We look forward to seeing your beautiful home soon. Our thanks to you and your love of the past. Sincerely, Teja and Stan Gambel, Lincoln, Nebraska

A fossil found at Fossil Oregon sometime in 1960 is now in my pocession.
It is my opinion the specimen is not "one" but "two" infant Basilosaurs sea- serpents from the late Eocene period. One of the sea creatures is "intact" while only a chest cavity of the second remains set in stone beside the other.

As you well know, the Basilosaurs were world-wide once teeming ancient seas; Their length would have expanded 40-80 feet with a weight of 7 tons.

When research first began on these "two" fossils, I was almost certain the creatures were "sea-horses" as is similar in size and mass to what a modern day sea-horse might look like today. Further research turned more toward ancient whales in make up and appearance. I finally come to the conclusion the fossils are probably "infant" Basilosaurus sea-serpents.

An attempt to photograph the sea serpents is now under way. Hopeful with added light that a clear image of the two fossils might soon be developed for further research and study. May I also send you a photograph to keep on file for your records? Any feed back from professioanl paleontogists will also be appreciated.

To whom this may concern.

I am writing to inquire about a special elephant named Penny. I lived in Ulysses from ages 3-8. I am presently 51, and have special memories of my mother and dad taking me to see Penny at the zoo. I had planned on making a trip back to visit where I spent some of my childhood, and would love to see Penny if she is still with us. I have lived most of my life in the Beaumont, Texas area.

                                                                                               Thank You

I am interested in knowing 1) the procedure the museum uses to procure aircraft for static display and 2) is there any volunteer work needed to the aircraft museum? I live in Kansas City, but would be happy to commute for the right incentive (non-monetary) What at can I do?

I'm the asst. manager and an escort for the York Fun Club in York, NE. York is very close to Henderson, NE, which is Orin Friesen's hometown. I noticed that the Diamond W Wranglers - previously known as the Prairie Rose Wranglers - will be performing at the Double D Ranch near Ashland, NE on June 27, 2009.

I just wanted to make sure that Orin Friesen would be part of the group for this gig. I know you've had a name change and even though the above news article lists Orin as a member, I found some other things on "the net" that list someone else and not Orin. Before we advertise, I want to make sure that Orin will be part of the group that night. I would hate to mislead our travelers. Thank you so much for answering my question. Sincerely, Bernice Mettenbrink, York Fun Club, Inc.

The first housing were dugouts with canvas roofs dug into the bank of the Arkansas River not sod or adobe.

Hi Nancy,
The celebration at Cedar Bluff State Park is called the Holiday In Lights. It is 7 miles of lights in the trees with other decorations for you to enjoy. The festivities take place Dec. 6 and 7th, Dec. 10 and 12,13 and 14. There will be hay racks for you to ride on to see the lights or you can drive your own vehicle. There is free hot chocolate and on occasion Santa even shows up for the kids! We hope you visit and enjoy the experience!

I have visited many Victorian era tour homes, but none can compare in beauty or depth of collection to the Lebold Mansion. It is truly one of Kansas' 8 Architectural Wonders, and I will add "A National Treasure." The owner/curators are extremely knowledgable on Victorian living and decor and give a knockout tour. Don't miss this on your visit to Abilene.
